CamfowlclimbingforCOPD

Hello everybody.I wanted to talk to you about something really exciting. I've come up with an incredible idea to combine my love for climbing with raising awareness for COPD patients.my beautiful mother sadly lived with, and passed away from conditions caused by COPD. For the past 5 years I cared for her and watched her deteriorate due to this condition and it has always been a cause close to my heart. I want to organise a mountaineering expedition to not only honour her memory but also to shed light on the challenges that COPD patients face every day. Thatโ€™s why we have chosen to do an 8000 metre peak, shishapangma. this is the death zone, every step beyond that point is a challenge to a normal healthy human being at that altitude but the reality is that these patients live with that struggle every day in life. But here's the thing, organizing such an expedition requires a lot of resources, and that's where I could really use your support. I'm reaching out to you because I believe in the power of community and the impact we can make together.By crowdfunding this expedition, we can not only cover the costs of the climb but also raise funds for COPD research, support programs, and awareness campaigns. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a difference in the lives of COPD patients and their families. Please feel free to share this with your friends, family, and anyone else who might be interested in supporting this cause. Together, we can make a real impact and bring hope to COPD patients around the world.Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and I truly appreciate any support you can provide. If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.Let's climb for a cause and make a difference together!Warmest regards,Cameron Fowler

I'm looking forward to a busy, and fun day today.  Starting with gong to my community's indoor yard sale, a once a year event, then on to the library for their BOGO sale.  I don't "need" any more books, but can't resist.  I'm hoping to find some children's books to take to my great-grandchildren when I visit them in August.  Then it's out to lunch with my best friend, and after that?  Back home to watch some TV - I'm hooked on streaming "Grantchester" on PBS - there are 8 or 9 seasons, and I'm only up to season 4, I think?  I hope everyone has something special to look forward to this weekend.

I had an application today with the surgeon who may or may not do my full hip replacement. Im confused he seemed to be emphasising the risks i woukd face it is more complex than this but im a bit too disheartened to type it all out.

  • JeanO53Hi Keebzeโ€‹ - After breaking part of my hip two years ago, I had a partial hip replacement.  I was in the hospital for 4 days and then in a rehab facility for about 10 days.   It took a lot of ongoing physical therapy and Iโ€™ve recovered fairly well.  It also took awhile for my lungs to recover from the anesthesia, but they recovered as well.  It takes a commitment to doing the work, but recovery can be possible.4 days ago

Community Announcementsadded a new article Plant-based Diet Decreases Risk of Developing Emphysema

New study shows nutritionally rich diet reduced incidence of chronic lung disease

MIAMI (April 25, 2024) - People with a history of smoking who follow a nutritionally rich, plant-centered diet have a reduced risk of developing radiographic emphysema later in life, regardless of smoking history, according to a new study. The study is published in the March 2024 issue of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases: Journal of the COPD Foundation, a peer-reviewed, open access journal.

Emphysema is caused by irreversible damage to the air sacs in the lungs, which then limits the amount of oxygen transferred from the air to the blood and creates a feeling of shortness of breath. There are currently limited prevention strategies for those at high risk of developing emphysema.
